Just before the Christmas break, Woodlands Class held a democratic vote to select our next class novel. In a very tight vote, Stitch Head by Guy Bass was our winner, with The Legend of Kevin in second place.
Here is the synopsis (blurb) for Stitch Head: Deep in the maze-like dungeons of Castle Grotteskew, insane Professor Erasmus created Stitch Head, a small, almost-human creature. His experiments continued, filling the castle with creations so fabulously monstrous that Stitch Head was long forgotten. Until a travelling circus ringmaster knocks at the castle door, promising to make Stitch Head a star. Is this Stitch Head's chance to venture beyond the castle walls? Or could he be making a terrible mistake...? "Imagine a vault so cavernous that it could contain all the world's greatest treasures and relics, from mummified remains of ancient monarchs to glistening swords brandished by legendary warriors. Who could be in charge of such a vault and how did he come into possession of such a unique collection? Who is...Professor Brownstone?"
Arthur and the Golden Rope will be our Class story and we will also be using it as the basis of our English Work this half term. Our current class novel is "The Midnight Hour" by Benjamin Read and Laura Trinder
Emily's parents have vanished into the secret world of the Midnight Hour - a Victorian London frozen in time - home to magic and monsters. Emily must find them in the city of the Night Folk, armed only with a packed lunch, a stowaway hedgehog and her infamously big mouth. With bloodthirsty creatures on her tail, Emily has to discover the truth to rescue her parents. What family secret connects her to the Midnight Hour? And can she save both worlds before she runs out of sandwiches? Our first Class Novel for this year is "Varjak Paw" by SF Said. I am really excited to share this novel with the class. Its an exciting, action packed adventure story. I really look forward to discussing the book with you, and perhaps sharing your ideas and comments with the author.
Mrs Drabble was ridiculously excited during the Easter holidays when she got her copy of Beyond the Odyssey. This is the third novel in the series about Elliot, a normal 12 year old boy; Virgo, a constellation, and the Ancient Greek Gods. Its hilarious, and sad, and exciting and now Mrs Drabble can't wait to share it with Woodlands class!
"Simply the Quest" is the sequel to "Who Let the Gods Out" - the book Mrs Drabble reckons is the best children's book for years. Its funny, heartwarming and full of action. Mrs Drabble can't wait to see if Simply the Quest is as good (she's sure it will be, as she's nearly snorted with laughter twice so far and we're only on chapter 3!)
What do you make of Simply the Quest so far? This week, Mrs Drabble started to read Toto the Ninja Cat to Woodlands Class. We are really enjoying it already. So far, we have read two chapters.
What are your thoughts on the book so far? What do you like about it? Which is your favourite character and why? What do you think will happen next? |
